Choose one topic in the attachment - Essay Example The saying on regret mentioned above is the best way to sum up or describe the plot and story of this movie. In this movie, every person is related or their story is linked and connected with the other person. Therefore, every scene and story of every individual in the movie consists of complex situations which get along very well with each other. "Magnolia" is a film of sadness and loss, of lifelong bitterness, of children harmed and adults destroying themselves. (Magnolia Movie Review & Film Summary (1999) | Roger Ebert) It is said that Magnolia is not one of those movies which could be understood by every viewer. Even when Magnolia was released worldwide in 1999, there were many viewers and those who reviewed the movie, their responses were quite conventional regarding it. They believe that it is a representation of emotional vulnerability. Therefore, due to these reasons, this movie can be looked through various aspects, perspectives, and prism as it includes a religious world an d dimension. After releasing the first trailer of this movie, it demonstrates that the movie about love which is either lost, gained, given, or withheld according to different situations. Basically, the religious aspect which is given in this movie shows the action of trapping the conflicted sinners and miscreants due to their wrongdoings in past relationships of reprobating. As it is clearly shown that this movie does not really have a plot but it conveys a very strong message as well as some great views and points. As this movie is about the lives and doings of 9 to 11 individuals, it is really hard to have a specific plot on which a movie had to be directed but the least a good movie can do is to motivate and spread out a strong message to its viewers. Not only the movie brings forward the shortcomings and fear but also sexual and emotional abuse. It is said that the people and viewers who call this movie exemplary are â€Å"actively dodging the social gravity, the psychological resonance, and the emotional poignancy of the conflicts mined in the film’s sensitive writing and talented ensemble acting. Most of the Magnolia’s characters have hit a crisis point at the start of the story. (Lane, 2) Anderson’s (the director) only philosophy was that bigger is better which was proven right with the help of this movie. However there are certain points in the movie where the director has shown inability to create a good film. It would be one thing if Magnolia offered multiple points of view, but Anderson is really only concerned with his own: a heavy-handed, self-pitying indictment of bad parenting and its sorry effects. Anderson expands his timeworn theme with a motif about chance and destiny (MAGNOLIA) As this movie is basically based on 9 to 11 people’s lives who are faced with regrets, his biggest failure in this movie is technical failing. As from every person to the stories and scenes, everything is linked and correlated. Therefore , switching the stories and making right decision at the right time is a difficult task. Therefore, the narration and writing of this movie is very complex. He has not perfected it yet that the way he crosscuts and switches from one scene to another which eventually is not the match of temporal relationships. For instance, there was a scene where a couple breaks up at one second, and the next moment the whole movie is switched Stanley who was the genius boy, deciding to put a stop at playing the tawdry game show. Empowerment of Talent Essay The present paper is an investigation of how empowerment of talent is being met in the present times when the entire world is going through rapid changes in almost all walks of life. In this very scenario, all major players have been active in the race of competitive advantage that has spread world over. Diversity is what the world has witnessed and affected all the people either in cities of remotest villages. Technological and scientific advances are seen as the ultimate solution of the problems of the world. However, one thing that is seriously being talked about is the development and effective utilization of human capital at every area of work and society. This at once opens a wide door of arguments and conflicts between the nations especially between the developed and the developing world. This paper undertakes an extensive investigation at the issue of talent and the challenges present to the world in the empowerment and retention of talent world over. The paper looks at a number of different sources to gather a number of viewpoints to reach an analysis. In the conclusion section, the paper makes recommendation along with findings of the investigation. 2- Defining Globalization Different writers see the concept of globalization in different terms and diversified contexts. However, there is a common link between their definitions and explanation of the phenomenon of globalization in today’s discourse. For example, Samli (2002) defines globalization in the context of technological advances that have taken the entire world with a swing; other phenomenal milestones that the world has covered in the journey of globalization are outbursts of information and related technologies, common know-how that has been increasing dramatically with the advent of these new concepts, and financial flows that have seen almost every corner of the world: the rise of the corporate culture. According to the author major portion of globalization is to technological advancement of the world. The author defines technology as â€Å"the application of science to economic problems† . Technology is also important in the process of elevating general standard of living on earth. In terms of globalization technology has not only improved rapidly in the recent times, but also its transfer to the remotest areas of the world has made the overall progress a material reality. This is why people from one corner to another are connected with each other via, satellite, Internet, and so forth. Chasing the history of globalization takes us to the nineteenth century when, according to Samli (2002) â€Å"globalization was well on its way† . Such technological strides as telegraph, steamships, rail-road had back then started the process of globalization causing shrinkage for the entire world. Economies conversion with flow of capital continued as international migrations and information technology flows were driven by activities of trade and services which were constantly growing with a rapid pace. However, there are certain issues that the author brings to the reader’s attention in connection with globalization. As developing countries see a way out in globalization by benefitting from agricultural reforms and services provision (which still would be critical to their future development), it is highly required that this process be continued, otherwise the author sees a bungling up between opportunities and struggle to grow worldwide. We can sum up the definition of globalization by Samli that there are at least four important areas where this concept is fruitful for the entire world. 1) Possibilities for specialization and comparative advantage; 2) increased productivity through specialization; 3) more competition (both locally and internationally) and reduction of monopoly; 4) possibilities for transfer of technology and improved production worldwide. Hence, entrepreneurship is one answer to a number of challenges that the entire world is facing: adjustment to global challenges like empowerment of talent without fighting the war of talent is possible through the proper development of entrepreneurship

Stress In The Workplace :: Workplace Health and Safety

Stress by definition is; any circumstance that places special physical and/or psychological demands on a person such that an unusual or out-of-the-ordinary response occurs. No one is immune to job related stress, making its existence a serious problem for employers and employees alike. Stressful jobs span an organization’s ladder from the bottom rung to the very top.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Since starting with UPS, I have seen many symptoms of work related stress. The symptoms can range from a silent but all telling â€Å"glazed over† look, to extreme ranting and raving associated with the need to â€Å"just vent†. These symptoms seem to affect employees at all levels of my department, including my immediate peers as well as my superiors.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Under the right circumstances, mild, short-term stress can be a good thing. For example, stress can serve as a motivator when a deadline draws near and there is still much to do. But constant stress over the long run can and will lead to getting burned out in ones job. Extended periods of burnout can lead to emotional and physical exhaustion, lack of motivation, decreased productivity and generally just being unhappy and dissatisfied with ones job. When burnout does occurs not only does the employees suffer but so do others around them. Customers receive poor service, relationships with coworkers suffer, and job involvement decreases to the extent that complaints may be made. Acknowledging that job-related stress causes multiple problems for those who directly and indirectly experience the effects of stress, it should be recognized that money and time could be saved if individuals and companies attempted to prevent stress from disabling parts of the work force. As a company, UPS does offer some help in managing and reducing stress.

Several organizations in the apparel industry have used socially responsible activities to rebuild reputations. The Taming Of The Shrew - 1844 Words

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW Characteristics of Katherina Minola BAD: Katherine Minola is a fiery, spirited woman, and as such, the male dominated world around her doesn t quite know what to do with her. Much of what we know about Kate initially comes from what other people say about her. Kate, in her own defense, offers telling commentary on her situation. Although other characters encourage us to see her as unmannerly and incorrigible, deserving of marginalization and abuse, looking more closely at what Kate actually says reveals she may not be as domineering as some characters would have us believe. In Act II, we get another look at Katherine and learn a bit more about what motivates her seemingly outrageous behavior: She s responding to the favoritism she perceives Baptista holds toward her sister, Bianca. As Act II opens, Kate enters, dragging Bianca with her hands tied. On one level, the mere act of one sister roping the other and handling her roughly for a perceived injustice is comic, but when we stop and consider from Kate s perspective we can have a bit more empathy. Kate is venting her anger that Bianca should be indulged with suitors while she remains alone. Granted, she is an intelligent and spirited woman who wouldn t be satisfied with simpering men such as Gremio and Hortensio. Rather, she needs a strong man to compliment her own strong and powerful personality. When Baptista enters and comes to Bianca s rescue, we learn what s really underlying Kate sShow MoreRelatedThe Taming Of The Shrew1180 Words   |  5 PagesDuring the 1600s, William Shakespeare wrote the play The Taming of the Shrew. Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legal - 1273 Words

Consider how you would feel if you were told that who you are, and the way you feel isn’t human. Imagine being treated like a young confused animal, which can be â€Å"re-trained,† for lack of a better phrase, if society just doesn’t accept who you are. This is a sad state of affairs, gay or straight, people are people and they should not be treated as anything less. Same-sex couples should be awarded the same benefits and rights as heterosexual couples, including the right to marriage. For a little over two decades, same-sex marriage has been a highly debated topic. The debate centers around if gay and lesbian couples should be allowed the right to enter into a legal marriage. While civil unions have more support than same-sex marriage, they†¦show more content†¦He then sought out legal counsel to represent him and other couples, and as a result after much trying and a lot of time put into these court proceedings, was able to get the Supreme Court to de cide that marriage was not limited to heterosexuals. Much of the opposition on same-sex marriage comes directly from religious teachings on marriage and homosexuality. Islam, for example, officially prohibits same-sex marriage, whereas Reform Judaism has long permitted same-sex couples to celebrate their commitment. The Roman Catholic Church opposes same-sex marriage. A lot of religious debates argue using the undeniable fact that there are readings and quotes from the Bible that are intolerant of homosexuality. These passages include: â€Å"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.† (Lev. 18:22, New Standard Version) â€Å"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.† (Lev. 20:13, New Standard Version) While this is true, there are also other things to consider. The most important being that times change and society develops. We are not the same people, nor do we have the same customs, economic situations, technology (or lack thereof), that was present in society 5,000 years ago. Another valid concern is, that not allowing same sex marriage goes against the 14th Amendment’s â€Å"Equal Protection Clause† of the U.S
